Media Debate- Do they use scare stories and moral panics to keep us under control?


Moral Panics: A condition, episode, person or froup of people emerge to become defined as a threat to societal value, ideologies and interests.

Examples of Moral Panics:

The swine flu scare made society look after there health more, posters were placed everywhere: catchitbinitkillit.jpg 

People even made a song and a dance about it:

This made people wash their hands after touching anything! Carry anit-bacterial hand gel, throw away used tissues, cover their mouths with a tissue when sneezing or coughing and clean surfaces like door handles and remote controls to prevent the spread of germs!

The AIDS scare promoted sexual health and encouraged the use of condoms and make people aware of what they were touching and who touched it.
